This one is for all the creative ladies out there! Let me present to you your new favourite design event that will leave you not only with new contacts and input but maybe also a bit tipsy.

Where are all the female creative directors?

This is the question Jessica Walsh, famous creative director and partner at the renowned NY based studio Sagmeister & Walsh was asking herself when she realized that the number of women in leading positions is drastically low. Although women make up more than half of the consumers, statistics prove that advertising agencies are still mostly led by male art directors.

In order for women to encourage each other, draw inspiration from other female colleagues and to strive towards the gender gap, Walsh came up with a new concept.

The solution.

Ladies, Wine and a bit of Design is a conversation series held monthly in various places of the city. Up to 6 creative ladies can apply for each get-together and will then wine, dine and discuss about various topics related to creativity, business and life. Each night has a specific topic and features special guests from the creative community of the respective city.

As a foreigner I gladly took this chance of getting to know some fellow colleagues in a casual environment and therefore signed up for one of their events. The event I participated in was the “Portfolio Review” at Studio AH-HA. So, after meeting and chat chatting a little bit, we all presented our portfolio and then got some feedback about our work from successful ladies that have been in the business for a long time. If you are sad because you missed the event, let me share their manifesto with you which sums up a lot of their valuable tips.

All talks are in Portuguese or English, depending if international guests join the night. Students or professionals are equally welcome and, on top of all that, it’s free.

First come, first serve (quite literally). So what are you waiting for? Sign up for the next night!

Cheers.
